Keeping an Organized Homestead
It never rains it pours, and that couldn’t be further from the truth on our homestead. Within the last 6 weeks we’ve had 2 does kid, our billy castrated, 10 piglets arrive and 4 cows on their way, hay needing to be purchased, feeders, waters, shelters and fences to build.
So yeah, it’s been a busy few weeks but I’m sure yours has been just as full. Sometimes I find it difficult to keep track of everything we need to do, and when we need to do it.
One day during complete chaos I had a melt down and realized we needed to get our homestead organized. I wanted a super simple system that wouldn’t add anything to my already full plate.
The Right Solution
Back in December I bought a beautiful wall calendar for our mudroom serving a more decorative than functional purpose. I started to fill it in, a brain dump with any important dates for everything in our lives. Doctors appointments, birthdates, medication dates, anything I could think of went on the calendar.
Now I am purposeful in using it. I add absolutely everything to it. For example, Jack was castrated last week and we needed to give him penicillin every night for 5 nights and a tetanus shot with a booster in 4-6 weeks. I wrote down each injection on the date they needed to be given.
For me, having one source of truth that I can reference makes my life just little bit easier. I may not actually need to know the date of Jacks procedure, but if I do it’s no stress to glance at my calendar.
I’ve created some basic calendar printable that you can use to help keep an organized homestead!
